20th May 2009 – Breaking Records in Maryland, USA!
I’m most definitely looking forward to competing at the worlds this year and my training is now well underway. However, the year did not start well for me as I’ve had a few injuries niggling at me. First of all I had issues with my back and then I had to have surgery on my elbow just a few months back. I was concerned about this when I went to the USA recently to compete in the Fairhill Highland Games in Maryland. However, to my own surprise and delight, I broke the Hammer record by throwing the 22lbs hammer 117 feet and 11.5 inches! That definitely put a smile back on my face.
I am back home now, not just in Scotland but in my home town of Carmunnock! I visited my old school today and spoke to the pupils there about what I do – it was good to be back there. I even ventured into the staff room and met my old teacher – we agreed that the last time I was in the staff room I was likely to have been getting into trouble! I enjoy being home and look forward to the Carmunnock Highland Games coming up on the 31st May.
